WHAT IS GEOCOCO? BY DR. JAUME GUILERA AND JAIME REFOYO.

JANUARY 2012
GEOCOCO IS A METHOD FOR IMPROVING MOTOR SKILLS THROUGH THE TECHNIQUE OF DRAWING USING BODY MOVEMENT. IT ORIGINATES IN THE PICTORIAL AND COGNITIVE WORK OF JAIME REFOYO.

On the pictorial plane, work is done with the perfectly straight and curved lines of the Geometric Organic series. These lines, done using the freehand technique developed by the artist, are based on body control. On the cognitive level, straight lines provide a geography of the foundations of body language based on the corporeity of symbols.

Dr. Guilera has advanced the hypothesis that patients with motor skill problems could benefit from exercises based specifically on this method. This hypothesis emerged after contemplating Jaime Refoyo’s work and comprehending how it was executed.

The execution of said lines requires concentration, gross and fine motor coordination, response inhibition, estimation of time and space, sequencing of motor patterns, visuospatial analysis and memory, metacognition and awareness of bodily position in space.

In addition to the above, with continuous practice over time, students develop artistic creativity and the capacity for aesthetic analysis through the shapes created during each session.

Sessions are individual, are led by Jaime Refoyo and follow a script jointly established by the two professionals.

In an appropriately equipped room, drawings are done on the ground or on a table on 3x1-meter paper, in H-grade Conté PIERRE NOIRE pencils. Students wear gym clothes and socks. Sessions last 1 hour and take place once a week.
